IsoConnect
A platform that gives you control of your hiring process
and directly connects you to your hiring team
Context
IsoTalent is a global recruiting and employment firm that helps businesses source and identify qualified workers in the US and abroad. Their recruiting process emphasizes quality candidates, speed to hire, cost-effectiveness, and global reach.
Our Development
To better serve IsoTalent clients' needs, we have developed two complementary products that work seamlessly together on the same platform: IsoConnect and IsoGlobal.
My Contribution
Research and discovery to understand end-user needs, product management to align those needs with business objectives, user flows, and wireframing to enable an iterative approach, and HF design and prototyping that meet usability standards.
Challenge
The challenge presented was to develop a platform that could meet the needs of recruiters, job seekers, and hiring managers while providing an engaging user experience. However, the platform had to avoid being perceived as a typical applicant tracking system (ATS). This posed a complex and challenging endeavor for the development team.
The platform had to be flexible and scalable enough to cater to various types of organizations and hiring processes both before and after finding the right candidate. To achieve this balance, extensive research and testing were necessary, along with a deep understanding of the recruitment industry and the needs of its stakeholders
It all starts with a Roadmap
As the most senior designer on our product team, I was responsible for creating our roadmap and tracking our progress as we worked on each aspect of the project. With only two designers on the team, it was my role to ensure that we delivered our work on time and coordinated with the developers during the handoff phase.
Product Team
We were ahead of development by 2-4 sprints
The Role of User Research in Small Project Development
To ensure that our platform met user needs, we divided it into small projects that covered multiple features. Before starting each new project, we conducted user research using a range of techniques. We used interviews, both in person and remotely, as a qualitative research technique to gather detailed insights from individuals. Additionally, we were fortunate enough to have end users available in our office, which allowed us to conduct field studies to observe users in their natural environment and gain insights into their behavior, needs, and preferences.
Part of my daily activities was to translate valuable insights into user flows to identify gaps in the user journey.
Example of a small project:
Messaging - Reduce friction for communication between Hiring Managers and IsoRecruiters.
Goals for Messaging Features:
Provide a dedicated space for general discussions on the role, which is not tied to a specific candidate.
Remove the IsoRecruiters internal notes section from the view of Hiring Managers.
Enable tagging of @users in the comment section (requires notification revamp to bring back the notification bell).
Add a history feature to the comments section.
Provide a better place for Hiring Managers to take notes while interviewing candidates.
Connect discussion comments to users' phones.
Integrate the discussion tab with Slack.
Make it Happen
Often, when mapping user flows, we found that multiple features were necessary to fully satisfy users. This is where MVPs are effective, as they minimize risk and reduce waste. As an agile team, we followed this approach, allowing us to quickly and efficiently deliver value while prioritizing frequent delivery of working software through short iterations.
Wire-framing was often an iterative process we started with rough sketches, refine them into mid-fidelity designs, and then create a final wireframe before moving on to prototyping. The goal was to create a visual representation of the layout and functionality of the product.
Design System
As a team of 2 I decided to build a small design system that we could maintain to streamline our work process through our design cycle.
